Bayern Munich have conceded defeat to Arsenal in the race to sign England midfielder, Declan Rice due to their inability to match West Ham United’s asking price of over £100m.
Hammers chairman, David Sullivan confirmed that Rice would leave the club after the UEFA Europa Conference League triumph, having rejected multiple contract offers.
Arsenal are leading the race for his signature and reportedly have the player’s green light. However, they saw an opening offer of a total package worth £80m rejected and termed ‘embarrassing’ by the East Londoners.
The move to the Emirates Stadium could get complicated as The Telegraph reports that treble winners Manchester City have actively entered the race.
Musiala heaps praise on Rice
Bayern Munich midfielder, Jamal Musiala has spoken about the club’s reported interest in Rice and lauded him as a great player he would love to play with.
“We would have been happy if he had come to us,” he said while on international duty with Germany, via Evening Standard.
“Declan is a great player. I’ve known him since he was very young before he went to West Ham. We played together in the park. I think I was 11 to 12 at the time. We grew up in the same area. He’s a great player.”
The pair were at Chelsea Academy together for three years, even though they played at different levels. Rice was released at the age of 14 and Musiala moved to the Bundesliga in 2020.
